Abstract/Description: Questions surrounding Jihad often lead to the discussion of its justification. Is it justified? How is it justified? What are the aspects that make up Jihad? How is it framed within the Qur'an? These questions will be answered throughout this thesis, as well as others one might pose about justifications. This work takes an in depth look at verses of Jihad within the Qur'an and how the proclamation of Jihad has evolved. Then, after a discussion on Just War Theory, this work will discuss Jihad within a Just War Theory framework. The conclusion will show the congruencies as well as the disagreements between the two.
